Wig Wag

Signal with flags using Myer's Two-Element Code — the U.S. Army Signal Corps' original wig-wag system. Call a receiving station, send your message, and close out the exchange, just as Civil War-era signal operators did.

Wave 2-1-2-1-2-1… (Right, Left, repeating) to call the receiving station.

Arrow keys or number keys 1 / 2 / 3 also work.

Procedural signals

These aren't required to play — the game handles the Start/Ready call and the word/sentence/message terminators for you — but they're the real historical exchange this game is modeled on:

  • Start / Ready call (2-1-2-1-2-1…) — Sender's attention call, repeated until acknowledged.
  • End of word (3) — A single forward motion.
  • End of sentence (3-3) — Two forward motions in a row.
  • End of message (3-3-3) — Three forward motions in a row.
  • Received / Ack (11.11.11.3) — "A A A" + end of word — sent by the receiving station.
  • Repeat (212.212.212) — Requests the sender repeat the last message.
  • Error (1-2-1-2-1-2) — Signals a garbled or misread transmission.
  • Cease Signaling (11.11.11.333) — "A A A" + end of message — closes out the exchange.
